Summary:
He was 41 at DFD; He was shot and killed by the RCMP after a long
standoff at the Martin’s home. Martin had a history on mental illness and was
released from hospital even though he had not completed his treatment and was
clear risk to himself and others.
Officer Galloway and Cpl. Tim Taniguchi rammed Marin’s car to prevent
him from fleeing the scene with two rifles. Galloway exited the vehicle and was
shot and killed by Martin. Cpl. Taniguchi took cover with in the vehicle when
Martin shot Galloway and was unharmed. RCMP officers then shot Martin 12 times
and he died later in hospital from blood loss.
After Martin was shot the RCMP did nothing to stop his bleeding and
only after the ambulance crew arrived was any assistance given to him and his
injuries. During the investigation the RCMP admitted negligence and mistakes
taken in the standoff that cost both men their lives.
